MPD24 with Ableton Live 7 - Help Needed!

I just purchased an Akai MPD24 and its my first midi controller. I've been loving it so far, but theres just two questions i have about it (and i'm not sure if i change settings in Ableton or on the MPD):

1) After pressing one pad, i want the sound to stop when i press another pad. But in some cases i want the sounds to keep going. How do i change this?

2) Assigning samples to pads is no problem, but the length of the sample i can play is a tad limited (i've already changed the delay levels in the Impulse function on Ableton).

1. Whether you are using Impulse or Drum Racks, learn about "Choke Groups".

2. Length is effected by the ADSR envelope. For one shots, you may want to open up the parameters.
