I need a good music theory book. I want something to use for chord / scale reference as well as give me a thorough lesson in theory.

Also any good books on production / mixing / mastering ?

Thanks a lot

I like Alfred Publishing books. I play guitar, bass & keys. Alfred Publishing has Beginning, Intermediate & Advanced lesson books for each. And they have genre specific books too. I have jazz and blues books for guitar and keys. The bass books I have are general and cover jazz, rock, funk, blues & r&b.

The books give great lessons and examples on many aspects of theory. Chords, scales, progressions, ect. I recommend getting the books that come with a CD or DVD so you can hear or see what's being presented in the book.

For mixing, I have The Mixing Engineer's Handbook by Bobby Owsinksi. Good stuff.
