My boy thought he found a rare sample on the net.
Come to find out that it was from the Dusty Fingers collection

Can someone breakdown this collection of samples?

Who has used this collection?

I have seen this collection referenced in Scratch and elsewhere

I thought I would start a thread about it

I've also used em but some of them have been used... infact quite a lot have.
So I don't think it would be any type of 'rare sample' collection.

I'm also interested to find out bout em though.

I got one of the volumes on vinyl..it's basically a collection of songs with good breaks. I also got a pretty big collection of mp3s from them..there's actually some good material..

i'll make a thread sharing some of the material..

i dont give a **** if people have used those dusty fingers samples, if i hear a hot one, im gonna make my own...point blank period.

me neither.. i just said those might have been used before. it doesnt matter...

When I first saw them I thought It was a collection of Royalty free samples put on wax.I guess I was being to optimistic. So far it sounds like its just a compilation of hot samples and breaks.

Good look JaeDiAMONDZ on posting the joints on the other thread

Anybody know who has used these?

No Prob..

and thats exactly what they are, a 'compilation'..and they really have no direct correlation to hip-hop..meaning if a song is on there it doesent mean that someone sampled it in the industry. But i'm sure a lot of it has been cause there's some illness included.

alot of industry stuff, and alot of dj premier beats were made with the samples that are on dusty fingers. I'm not saying they got them from the dusty fingers collection, just somethin I noticed myself. I have the collection 1-15... so many dope cuts on it. Breaks and samples. def worth checkin out. i've used a few samples and breaks off it myself. everytime i think i found everything in it, i find more. listen closely!

The question is more who HASN'T sampled dusty.
But I love the dusty collection I sampled dorothy ashbys windmills of my mind and it came out sick as ****. They have a lot of nice tracks in that collection

That dude Mako or whatever (that asked if he was better than Dilla) used a ton of the Dusty Fingers samples.
In most cases he didn't even alter them.
I brought it up in his thread. He didn't respond.
I wasn't even calling him out either, because Swiss used an unaltered beat for The Carter III.
You'll hear the seeds of Jay-Z, Mobb Deep, Akeneyle, & many other beats unaltered in this collection.

It is just a compilation of pretty good instrumental songs that can be sampled or even rapped over often w/o being sampled.

The same company made Ultimate Break Beats Vols. 1-25.
Those I feel are just songs famous for good drum breaks.

However, I feel Dusty Fingers are albums of good instrumental songs w/ banging drum tracks. That is how I see it.
No, the can't be rare now, because so many people have this collection, but they were rare & obscure before the collection got popular.
I'd listen to them for sure. You don't drop 25 volumes & create a new series that puts out 15 more volumes if your choices suck.
They made that many for a reason.
I have all volumes & also all U.B.Beats.
Get 'em w/ a torrent because there are 15 albums that I know of.
I can't remember if I got these from a torrent or a blog.
You'll hear some $hit & go damn that's where that came from, heh

There are still millions of ways to flip one sample, trust me. No one should be discouraged to sample something that's already been flipped, just come up with something fresh.

As for the whole Dusty Fingers thing, I have used many regardless of whether they have been flipped or not.

The collections are good to have wether they are the original super disco breaks, the sound of funk, dusty fingers, soul beats etc... because the music is classic its not always about sampling sometimes you have to just listen and appreciate what these artists, producers engineers and musicians were able to do with none of the equipment that we mostly employ now..Its funny we all talk about how sounds are played out and look for the next module or keyboard that just re creates the music that we sample from any way... I say use what you have...wether its 78s 45s 8tracks cassettes albums cds mp3s whatever because no 2 people hear the same thing...so it really dosent matter how many times a sample was used..remember guys and dolls EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN.. I will say for us purist yes it is still important to have the Original records its a sense of pride thing but with the internet and opportunity you are going to find a lot of songs uploaded...its a matter of choice...Just remember also that whats important to you is not so important to others... as im sure that any of us who has dug 8 hours or more in one spot can attest that you never bring your girl or kids with you LOL...Hiphop is so personal and we sometimes want to keep it to ourselves...but its has gone global(a long time ago) and you have to change with the times...so its not just our music anymore...Catts are digging all over the world...You have to network in some cases to get it poppin...Thus all the sites you can post or exchange your music...For my purist just think of that one joint you have that you either thought no one was up on or paid too much for it how now either someone has used it (cause you slow rolled) or to some folks ie family members who dont care (and will sell that ****) if something were to happen to you...Yea this is serious to a lot of us but the times have changed I remember walking into Music factory in the City and seeing the names of the artist on the breaks and how mad i was LOL I knew then it was the beginning of the end!!!

Hi!

Can anyone tell me is the song "Modern Mixture" by Themes (International) on Dusty Fingers vol. 16 original funk song or is it made by some hiphop producer? It sounds awesome and I'd like to know more about the artist.
