Because I use FL Studio for a few years I use its Edison in combination with Fruity Slicer. In Edison, it's easy to add the desired sample, detect the tempo and then slice it as you want. If you want to go further and create your own instrument using your own samples then I recommend you to see Kontakt, it's a powerful sampler where you can map your sounds across the keyboard, add effects and much more.

Cool to see that there's still people sampling with FL Studio also. I've been thinking about getting a Maschine but it's not as good for arranging as FL.

I load the mp3 into Edison and chop it up in there (Maschine can't even sample mp3's)
Than drag it over to FL Slicer and start sequencing it.
Than copy the FL Slicer 4 times and i put 4 different Filters on it so i can add variation in the mix by using different Filter Layers on top of each other. (This is something every sample-based producer should do)

I've also used FL for a while, Edison is pretty useful. I recently started using Native Instruments Maschine and the sampling is pretty great. I love being able to basically touch my samples using their system.

I use the NN-XT in Reason. Set it up with the "fake MPC feel" (polyphony=1; Amp Envelope release=Max)
I used to use the Akai MPD32, but now I use my old Yamaha DJX keyboard as a controller.
The MPD32 is a lot of fun, but I have grown into using the keys to compose more instrumentation.

Most Productive = Yamaha DJX

Renoise.

Exactly what I was going to say!

Renoise has few peers for sample manipulation.
A great sequencer to boot.
You could get the vst version (Redux) if comfortable in another daw to sequence.
Renoise is light on cpu, and pretty light on ram usage also which is a plus.
It will run on almost any computer.

I am also conducting an extensive spectrogram analysis of the pitch-shifted audio files and I found some interesting results.


Ableton Live Simpler Fruity Loops




The results are obvious in this major scale audio file example. What you can be observed, especially in the low end, is the effect of aliasing which happens when frequencies are pitch-shifted above the Nyquist Theorem Limit (22050 Hz).

Any thoughts on this?
