What scale are west coast beats usually in?

Like old school dre and snoop shit. i know its probably not a specific scale but more than often.
 
It varies so much because now anyone can make beats. For me, I make almost all of my beats in D Major while another could do it all in C Major. The good part is that they all work. Every scale is just the next one down and pitched up a bit. Just use which ever one you already know the notes to.

It's not a stupid question at all. That gangsta sound is usually in a minor key. Not a particular minor key like A,C,D etc. It can be in any key, but the vibe is minor keys. Not all West coast is in minor keys because there are no rules. but generally the minor keys will get you there.
 
That's definitely true. Even just piano minor chords each an eighth note in length will sound west coast
