"Tricks" for Sampling

One benefit of reversing a sample is to apply effects/processing then reverse it once again so the sample plays as it did but the effects/processing becomes reversed.
 
i generally record the sample into Ableton, warp it so that its in time (live drums are a pain in the arse) and then i chop it down. Then I EQ/Filter and then add some mild distortion, or a lot depending on the sample.
