I'm trying to tranfer music files from a minidisc to my pc in order to then burn them onto a cd.

When I plug the Sony MD Walkman MZ-R50 into the line-input on the pc, I don't know how to find it. Do I need some sort of software to recognize the minidisc player? If so, any suggestions?

nonono let me explain...

althought he miniDisc is recording in digital quality (48Khz I think), it is NOT a "file" media. I mean that you need to basically "sample" the sound coming from the miniDisc to the PC input using Sound Forge, or Cool Edit, or any sound editor.

You press record (in your software) and capture the sound (any sound) that comes to your PC. Just like you would record the sound of a microphone or of your CD player.

Unfortunately it is not like a digital camera, there is no software for a direct transfer.

Good luck

heyy I almost forgot.........

I use a Minidisc to record my mixes. After mixing I hoop up the Minidisc on the line in on my PC. You will have to use the Line In, because there is no software for a direct transfer. Then I use Cool Edit to record a big Wav file. After separating the big wave file in different tracks, I use Neo CD burning to eliminate the gaps between the different tracks. Result my own mixed CD.
