I've decided to buy a portable Mac, and would like to know if anybody has experience with MIDI and/or soundcards in combination with the iBook or Powerbook...?

Check the Roland UA30 !

It's an USB audio interface, it has nice specs for the price.

Maybe you should wait a little, the new Powerbooks may be out soon !
