how to create those soul strings
i have various string vsts but every one of them makes that classical string sound
i need that melancholic string sound
is there a way to create this sound or are there vst that you know

thanks

Well, if your looking for realistic strings, u´ll have to stick to sample libraries, do you have a refference track so it´s easier to think about the sound design of strings that make people cry? :D

well, I can´t notice any specific effects on it, at first I thought it´ll be some strings with detune on it or some flanger effects.
In order to get that vintage sound, there is a plug called valhallaDSP vintageverb, to get that verb effect, there should be a band effect, not sure tho, try PSP VintageWarmer to get that warm vintagy feel, I think it´s exactly what you mean about melancholic sound, that rather sounds like old violins :D

The VintageVerb and VintageWarmer are the only VSTs that come into my mind, seems you need to do some research if you want to get free VSTs with the same effect :P

a friend of mine has that plug in
but i dont think only putting reverb on a string will make this sound
im not even sure if these are real strings or synths

it´s a little bit difficult to notice it exactly but as far as I can hear it, they are real strings from a sample library :P usually there is a big difference between synthetic strings and real strings, this synthetic unatural sound is easy to notice.

But to recreate this sound, I would do following:

Getting violins from a Samplelibrary
Get a Reverb on it
Then get a band effect such as the VintageWarmer
Put a Lowpass filter on it in order to put the sound in the background

anything else would make the sound unatural and in your reference track it´s definately not unatural :D

just try it out and play along with certain effects and stuff until you get the desired sound.
You learn more from own discovered sounds than from 1:1 followed tutorials

If the ones you have are classical string sections, they're simply probably going to have a lot more violins in them. The example you posted has relatively few. I'm not sure if there's a definite "vintage" sound to those strings, but they certainly sound like they're played in a good sounding room, and that gives them a certain feel.
