What are the upgrades that the mk3d has over the mk2? Is it money well spent?

Does anyone know of a seller that sells Mk3d's that also uses paypal, or other forms of payment besides credit cards? Thanks

Blue

there aren't really any differences between those tow model the mk2 and mk3d.

the mk3d has all the same specs as the mk2 except it has an inverted power switch (avoid acccidental motor-off), biggie here (what seems to be by general consensus) is the quartz pitch-lock override button so the quartz lock does not activate thereby avoiding that "pitch jump" that some people can not cope with :p :D There is a difference in the colour I belive also. the mk2 I think is only available in black now where as the mk3d is available in black and silver also. There is also two more things. The mk3d has a small hole left of the counterweight assembly to hold a back-up cartridge/headshell and the hinges on the back of the dust cover no longer slide down into locking position but they magnetically attach to the unit. The price is about $50 more on the mk3d's also.

I'm positive those are the only differences. All the mechanical specs are the same.

With the mk3d if you buy it you get the standard technics headshell but you also get technics slipmats, that's also one difference (upon purchase ofcourse:))

Not a big difference

Hey Blue,,,

The only real difference with the MK3 over the Mk2 is the power switch. Using the MK2, you run the tendency of flipping the switch off because of the design of the older switches. What they've done with the MK3's is they've inverted the switch inside the table, which makes it almost impossible to turn off while spinning.

Since the price difference between the MK3 and MK2 (new ones that is) and you're on a tight budget, I recommend the MK2's,,,you'll save some cash.

If you're looking to save a little bit more or looking for a paypal distributor, go to www.ebay.com, and buy yourself a clean pair of used ones.

Good luck,,,laaaate.

I recently upgraded my MKIIs with M3Ds and haven't regretted it for a second. Merc's right: the BIG difference is the replacement of the "clicking-zero-point" with a reset button (where the speed is exactly 33.3 or 45 RPM). If yer a turntabilist this isn't a big deal, BUT if you beat-match it's amazing (yeah, I know DJs have gotten around this problem for ages, but if you don't HAVE to deal with it, why should you??).

I've heard some people say that while the M3Ds gotta more powerful motor, things are kinda screwy with the pitch fader... that is, there's a lag between the time the pitch is moved and when the table actually speeds up/slows down. I haven't really noticed this problem... but if it does it exist, it hasn't pissed me off thusfar.

Hope this helps.

the price diff. is NOT! 50$..., it's more like 20$-10$, and i think it's well worth it!

I found a place where the difference was only $10. The covers on the m3d are also not connected to the back, so they are easier to take off and put back on.

You need to do some research on your pricing fella! Why would technics sell a newer turntable with supposed (in your opinion) greater options for only $20 more??? Ok, the difference on "average" is closer to $40 and that's well worth the additional options you're getting. If you understand this, then someone who's on a tighter budget might just get by with 1200's and put the money he saves towards a phatter mixer. Anyone feel me on this?

Check competitionsound.com. M3d $469.80, Mk2 $459.00. I'm sorry, the differnece is $10.80.

forgot about shipping? That's where they'll make their money on you! Include shipping and you're looking at $490 a table for the MK3's and $480 for MK2's!! Yeah, it's still a $10 difference but you end up getting raped for the MK2's and end up paying the market price for the MK3,,,on the other hand you can walk into Astro lighting in L.A. and walk out with MK2's for $450 flat each, including tax!

All I'm trying to say is that you can buy it online, but don't let the prices deceive you.

naw...

buying online will save you sometimes. it depends on tax vs. shipping charges. if you order something from an out-of-state store, you do not pay tax as you would if you buy from a local store. but you pay shipping instead. so it is important to do your homework. i recommend finding the cheapest price online and then make a local store match it, if possible, it makes it easier if you need to take it back for any reason and you get it right away.

that astro place sounds great if it sells them that cheap, but finding prices like that are rare. i know guitar center is selling m3d's for $450 + tax right now. excellent deal if you ask me.

I live in Canada and I payed $1515 for two tech mkII's. that's including taxes (We have lots of those in canada) and shipping. So that's $775 per table, in american prices that's around $480 per table including taxes and shipping & handling. I did lots of homework on that one and it worked out well, even some friends were saying that it was a damn good price I got (living in canada) but as mentioned I did lots of homework and math :D

So far ordering online has been no problem for me with anything, even groovetech was a real pleasure, can't say much about satelite tho my records haven't arrived here yet:p

that is a damn good price.

i hear a lot of bad talk about online shopping around here, but i'm in the same boat as merc, i also have had pleasant experiences with online ordering so far. got my mixer from 123dj.com and they sent it out very quickly. my roomie got his m3ds from competition sound and although it took a while he got a really good price. i do not however like to buy from satellite or planetx anymore because satellite is very very slow and planetx never has anything they list instock, never tried groovetech, i think i will someday cuz everyone says they are good. the best service by far was through dancerecords.com. they are brand spankin new and specialize in disco/funk house and are very quick and very nice when you talk to them on the phone (unlike many places i won't mention). primalrecords.com also has excellent service, they even take phone orders and play records into the phone for you to hear.

Groovetech is absolutly the best online record store I have ever dealt with, good prices and great customer service, I usually get my records about 3 days after the order has gone through, not to mention the fact that they actually list on the website wether it is in stock or not. so groovetech = :D :D :D <--- one very happy DJ

Hey man I totally understand what you mean.

Another few people had posted individual threads on here asking for good online records shops. well I ordered from groovetech and live in canada next to detroit so about 2000milds away from groovetech in seattle and I got my records 2 days later, they credited me within a week for the one that wasn't avaiablable and I ordered more records 2 days after and got that order 2 days after also :) So I got both orders within one week and also was credited within a week for some more records that weren't available. At the same time I ordered from groovetech the first time I also ordered 1 record from satelite in NY,NY and that 1 record didn't come until 2.5 weeks after I got my second groovetech order

Good place to order from yes and excellent customer service, Chloe (with accent) Jones contacted me very promptly after each email and gave me all the info I needed and was friendly.

So I agree and I've already recommended groovetech to a number of people.

Good service pays off ;)

Yeah I feel ya on that one I live about 4,000 miles from there and get in 3 days or so..yet I only live 3 or 4 hrs from NY and I geet my record from BBS about 4-5 days after the order. I always recommend GrooveTech, and yeah I've talked to Chloe a couple of times, they even let me return a record once that was warped and they paid for the shipping and hanlding of the return and exchange. gotta love'm :) :)
