I been sellin beats online for a few years. I was into it hard last year, I can remember waking up to like $75 - $150 worth of paypal notifications in my email every day just for leases. Then I started workin more personally with artists, did some some traveling around the country and in canada, even got a few big names on tracks, one with Trick Trick, the other two you will definitely hear about soon. but recently Ive started to get back into this online thing and Im noticing more and more guys are not tryin 2 pay for shyt. Dudes are even bold enough to rearrange the whole beat just to avoid tags. I get hella phone calls and emails and dudes hittin me up on twitter wantin me to listen to the tracks they made with my shyt and they literally will cut half the tags out and think Im not gonna notice it. Thats always been a problem but when your making money you dont notice it, now that im getting back into it its crazy, 4000 plus downloads and a handful of sales does not add up. Im even seein producers try to combat that, blocking their free dls and what not. Well as producers, even though we are in competition with each other it would benefit us all to share ideas about how we can protect our music.

I understand free dls themselves are not going anywhere soon but if we can figure out other ways to stop the nonsense we should share em.

So far All i can think of is to tag the hell outta tracks, only put a minute or so up as preview, or add that lil beep all random in the loop.

Anybody else who has any ideas, throw em in here. We as producers do need to realize we are devaluing our own market. I might only be doing this online thing a couple more years at the longest anyway, but Its been my key to meeting people and getting somewhere, cause i was able to quit my job and still support myself off my beats, chasing my dream. Id hate to see that ability lost to the newer guys tryin 2 be producers but it seems like the market is on a major down and we are the one allowing it. This site gets thousands of guys tryin 2 be producers or learn how to make beats, we dont know the influence we can have on the market here, so any ideas/opinions are welcome long as we can keep it respectful, thanks.

I definitely hear what you're saying, but with cats selling leases for 99 cents and not seeing the problem with that, its gonna be hard to make a change fam.

Kids steal candy out the store, it's that dude with a panty on his head I'm worried about.

Like Troup said Voxengo Beeper does random beeps so they won't be able to precisely chop out the beeps. Normally, tags are on beat so if they chop out the tagged part and put an untagged part there... they actually have your full beat.

No one will want to do this but... put up a 64k lo quality version.

Yup. Put random, loud ass beeps in the track, and make them something other than in the key of the song...so that they are annoying, but the person can still hear the track.

They aren't gonna wanna rap over it with the beeps in there.

Cuz I can tell you from experience, I chop y'all tags out of beats all the time. Rappers bring me y'all beats, and I rearrange them, and chop the tags right out.

And most times, the way y'all put the tags in the track, it sounds like just another element in the beat, so it's barely even noticeable when you put vocals over it. Your tags actually work to ENHANCE the track.

Yea Ive seen that ALOT recently. Good Looks Bro, I slept on what I said last night and woke up thinkin beeping sound all day lmao, then I see you a specific postin 1, hell yea Im about to try this ASAP.

And the price of the lease isnt whats killing the game, if guys are gonna put card information online to buy a .99 cent lease, they will do it for a 9.99, 19.99, 24.99 ect, cause thats not making anybody broke. They are stealing beats because they realzie they dont have to, not for lack of money.

Get that Voxengo Beeper plugin (google search it,it's free), and put it on your master output bus, before you bounce.

Play with the settings to get it how you like it, then bounce.

Thank Rome...he put me on to it.

^ 4sho, good lookin out rome, I wonder why so many guys abandoned doing that, i guess whatever to get a leg up.. Thats one leg up that im not takin anymore tho, hopefully I can get a few guys I know to start doin it and other guys will start to follow, as long as it becomes common it will become more accepted.

No problem. Anything I find is for the good of FP. I'd rather see active people using whatever I stumble upon rather than me sitting on it.

There should be more knowledge sharing threads like this. (There also should be more participation in threads like this)

There's a quote some guy made "None of us are smarter than all of us"

Those rappers don't know that karma will bite them in the a#$, they steal beats - people will steal their songs if they ever get anywhere.

It's tough out here. That is why I am sticking to music licensing for now.

Yea i agree, thats kinda how I look things, A lot of times if your helping other people your helping yourself in a way. Especially with something like this that can benefit us all.

and right, it is sad that not too many people are interested in this topic, theyd rather copy the same business model they see, not realizing that its bankrupting our market, than come together in the community and try to fix things.

regardless, <<< one less producer to keep getting beat jacked right here lol

Yea Troup I was just gonna post something similar to the voxengo beep. lol Basic signal noise generator. Another engineer put me onto it as security safeguard. This is in Pro Tools. I love music and will do this for the rest of my life. But Im not going to sell myself short. As a producer I want records that I produced fully from beginning to end, not send some beat off for $50. Another way is the add random pieces of noise or blank(mute) the music quickly. Low quailty rates, fades too.

The disable free DL is cool, but its not going to stop someone who really knows technology and wants that record.

same thing goes for state of the art car alarms

unless you just flat out don't put it online . . . it can be stolen
unless you park that shit in a garage . . . it can be stolen

my grand idea would just be to disable Free DLs, I don't think people are legitimately ripping the music from the stream player as much as they are just freeloading it . . .

Tryin it out on my new beat on my page, got some promo running so I'll let you know tomorrow if its being received well with the beep sounds in it

No kidding about the downloads thing. I started climbing back up the charts last week. I broke into the top 100 on SC last thursday, and right now I'm #27 on the charts with +7000 plays today .......but I've only sold one lease.........to a dude that already had a thing for my beats last year, lol. I might be closing out an exclusive deal too, but other than that, nada. It was enabling free downloads for my new beats that got me up this high too. Before I did that I was averaging under 100 plays a day. I'm gonna give it some time tho...and disable free downloads again on my next upload since I already carved a space out for myself lol.

Gotta get on the beeper too.... been downloaded it, just never used it yet. Been afraid that it might drive listeners away lol. Glad someones testing it
