I have a song that I've been sitting on for nearly 10 years now that I desperately want to finish, however for the longest time, I've wanted to add some strings to it to give it that extra lift. The problem is, I just don't have enough know-how to do this successfully. I'm pretty experienced when it comes to mixing, however in regards to working out things like counter-melodies, or chord progressions (basically things that involve melody aspects), I'm very lacking.
Multiple times over the years I've tried to do this myself, but anything more than adding a basic one note violin part to, for example, the lead up to a chorus, I just can't seen to work it out. An example of the thing I'm trying to achieve would be something like the strings that you can hear in the Bon Jovi song "Always". They are behind the main melody being sung and/or played on the keys, and play what I would consider a sort of counter melody, but really lift the song, especially during the final chorus.
My question is, how do I go about finding somebody to work with that can help me with this? What are the usual arrangements with things like this, in terms of payment, and credit/rights in regards to the finished song?
