Say you have the perfect artist, you made the perfect beat, and recorded the perfect song. Mastered and ready to go. And its DEFINITELY a single.

what steps do you take to make it popular after the recording process?...

Looking for it's placement... Getting it on the radio.....shopping it......

If it's THAT good, I would copyright it now. Then start playing it for anyone that will listen to it. There are people looking, you just have to know someone that can get to them. Hopefully you live in a town with a music scene (NY, LA, etc.). It's much easier there. If not, there are always services like Taxi. Put if up on youtube and promote it. No, you can't monetize it, but if it becomes a hit (and you wrote the beat) and the artist gets signed, people will come back to you. But they'll also try to cut you out, so be careful.

Start building relationships with DJs and record promoters, people that can blast your music out. Also start having the artist doing shows with the record even if theyre free to get the name out there etc.

Ways you can promo it:
- Youtube
- Soundclick (Pay for promo)
- Large forums
- paste links responsibly through Social Media websites
- Make a mixtape and pay a good DJ to host it for you...
- etc.

Do you want the artist to blow or is the artist referencing it... ? You could get the song to an a&r email via twitter etc... Drop a video and promote it everywhere... Etc.. It will spread through word of mouth... Get on worldstar .. Etc... Depending if it's a true hit or not..

Yea first it has to be an actual hit. Music sells itself if it is. I use this service to find the ends and outs about submitting to get it licensed for TV, Film and Video Games. If you are looking for radio rotation we have a radio station WDSR Yall Betta Recognize Radio that will play the music as long as it's good. Submit to sendtrax@gmail.com We also report to ASCAP, BMI, SESAC & Sound Exchange. But like others said, you have to get as many ears on it as possible. Send it to places like youtube, digiwaxx, record pools, etc. And network, network, network, promote, promote, promote.

I work for one of the biggest radio companies in the UK and it is surprising at how relaxed the process is for music submissions.

Over here there is one person who handles all of the music that goes on air. They make sure the sound is right for radio (so essentially this has to be a finished song).

Labels usually schedule a monthly or weekly meeting with this person to play them new music. However, that doesn't mean someone from inside can't send them a link to an amazing song.

So to begin, you should simply make sure your beat is finished with vocals. Then spread it across the internet (and yes, remember to copyright it).

If you are trying to make it more targeted, focus on a certain station in your local area that makes sense to have your music on it. Then go through the process of networking. Cold call and ask for a casual meet up 'learn' how music gets on air and if you're lucky enough they will arrange a meeting.
