I happen to have that same snap sound. I think it was from a so-called Pete Rock kit but I don't think it was a studio made sound, I think it was sampled from something. Anyway, I've learned that you have to be careful with it and sometimes maybe cut the release because that crackle can muddy up the track a little too much.
