In this video I use compression (with a limiter) and transient shaping to make a kick and snare louder & punchy while not taking up too much headroom in a mix.
In the video I use the Waves L1 Limiter and Izotope Alloy 2. Any other compressor or limiter will work. I provided links to alternative (and free) transient shaping plugins.
