How do producers like mike will make the simplest melodies sound so good? Is it the mix n master, sound selection, something else im missing?

Thanks for the input.

it's the mix.. you could sample the sample for empire state of mind,, but it will not sound like the JayZ because their was mixed and mastered the "pro" way.

yep, but that was the answer the op was looking for any way - they did not consider whether it was a case note selection along with rhythmic choices and articulations/dynamics

scrapheaper said it the best.

Note selection will make your track good for years to come, sound design will make your track good right away, a good mix will make your track unannoying. But all three your track is timeless

1. Note selection (music theory)
2. Choice of instrument (subjective yet time consuming)
3. Groove added (timing)
4. Mixing (no instruments clashing/blurring it out)
5. Mastering (icing on the cake)
