been trying to find the key for a song, tried playing the melody of the vocals on my keys, after a while i manage to get the it..so i transposed my keyboard down so i could sort of play all the "white keys" but boy was i wrong, there are still some black keys in the melody. i thought that i must have got it wrong, but i tried transposing to every other key, and still there are always black keys in them. really stumps me. whats wrong here?

initially i figured that the song is in G#,
however after i transposed and played the vocal melody theres still Eb and Bb (black keys ) in it.

hope someone can help me with this theory bit. thanks..

just 'cuz a melody is "in" a certain key doesn't mean that there are no notes within the melody that fall outside of the key, that's what tension and release are about. there's probably other reasons, but theory is a weak point for me, so somebody else would probably be better at explaining it.

If ya got Eb and Bb than you in a mode based on Bb major. Transpose up a whole tone.

Whats so bad about black keys?

Unless you're modulating keys, in which case it'll be hard to avoid black keys.
