How do you make your Boombap HipHop drums fatter?

Except of finding good samples, it is in my case a mix of compression, saturation und reducing high frequences. Maybe I will try a Tap Maschine Plugin like Slate Digital VTM or the Kramer Master Tape, to make it still more warm and dirty.

What are your techniques?

I layer my drums. Sample selection is key, for example with kicks I regularly use three layers, one is the "main sound" that defines the kick. One is there to beef it up, I often use some low pass in my 2000XL on it, then lastly I select a nice kick with lots of low end and lp filter it and add resonance. Getting them sound good together often involves pitching them up or down. Then just mix the sound levels to get it sounding the way I want. I try to get to the sound I'm looking for within my 2000XL before tracking out for mixing, but do compress some and may add a bit of saturation.
