I think they're giving you the sound they're capable of. If you want "warm" and "fat", you're using the wrong mic/pre combo. "Warm" and "fat", to me, would be an RNP and an SM7b if we're staying budget friendly. If we're throwing budget out the window, then it's ME-1V/MA-200.
