is it possible to mount monitors in any way, or is it best to leave them on the desk? i say this because i have limited room and it would help if the monitors could be raised.

i think the monitors work best at ear level -- and sometimes it helps to have them isolated from any vibration too.

Don't put them direclty on your desk. You need something to pad them becuase when the bass hits, it will vibrate your whole desk inducing more noise. This will make it harder for you to mix down properly.
