what's your dream studio setup?

My dream studio

my dream set-up:

2x21 '' monitors (i have 19'')
genelec subwoofer
nordlead
prophecy
Pro-Tools
a computer that doesnt crash
a decent mic ($2000-3000)...
a 10.000 loops library
100 decent plugins
both a male/female singer (we include them as gear)
and we are in business

My ideal set up!

Okay, this is fun. Here's what I'd like to build:

:D RS7000 Sequencer, [waiting] ,
:D Virus Indigo, [waiting]
ER-1
ES-1 [for extra sample time for the RS]
SidStation
Microcon2
Nanoloop [w/ Gameboy advanced]
Kaoss Pad
DX200 [for those Weezee basses]
TB303 [overused -- but I like it]
Speak & Spell [just got one!]
CBX-K2 Controller [cheap!]
DX100 mixer
G3 Blue & White for recording.

And, I'm still trying to find a good PRE AMP.

But what I'd REALLY like to see, is an EMPTY box with a small monitor will lot's of knobs, that will allow a user to install VST instruments and used them as hardware. That would also have to be included into my "ideal" setup. This way you can use sure VST instruments as Orange Vocoder, PPG WAVE 2.0, ReBirth, Reaktor, CuBase or "M" without having to compromise your home computer and allow the program a dedicated hardware device -- without a computer.

I would also like to get the JaMoX Syn-SUN [REAL analog w/ REAL Midi control] But it would cost WAY TOO much! So the MICROCON2 will have to do.

Lastly, the entire LUCASFILM and TODD-AO SFX film library on CD!

Comments are appreciated; cause sometimes I wonder if some things [gear] are redundent?

Later.

I am sitting in my dream studio but I still want more!

midi mods

No, I wasn't planning on hacking open the insides of the keyboard. Just getting one of those Kenton Pro Solo boxes and running it into the arpeggiator sync lead. I've heard mixed reviews of their upgrade kits, plus they're way the hell more expensive. Also, most of the classic (and some of the less expensive) roland drum machines featuer trigger outputs so that whatever you sequence into the rimshot pattern gets pulsed out at +5v which is what the arpeggio sync reads in.
-mj-
ps: You can hear some of my older tracks online at http://www.mediaportal.org/mj My latest stuff is staying private until I've played my next couple shows.. Don't wanna spoil the surprise!

yeah , roland drum machines, kinda sound good , never , heared about them .

I'll hear u're song .
if u hear Mine
TeKno

Check It Out

dream rig

for today anyways, here is my dream rig:

computers:
Dual P4 1.7ghz machine,
w/ all the fixins (fastest scsi, etc)
2 sony 34" flat panel monitors
Pulsar 2 or latest sound card (and a interface with standard windows widgets)
Cubase 6 (well, it is a dream studio isn't it - of course, my cubase 6 operates like cubase, has every missing feature i want and runs smoother than pro-tools)
Lots of effect and instrument plug-ins.
tons of other little goodie applications (fruity loops etc)
midi interface capable of handling everything

Other audio machines on the network so mutiple people can be working on **** at the same time.

A g4 machine and some linux machines just to have handy plus the best ultralite laptop with lots of extra batteries and a 24-32 bit audio interface for field recordings.

High end servers for backups

High end servers for firewall and routing

High end server for web hosting (all my bands and friends bands and art projects etc)

t3 line (with a stack of static ips)

network would be gigbit ethernet of course

sampling/synths/keys:
Nord Modular (have that)
Kurzweil pc-88 (have that)
Yamaha Grand Piano with midi
Roland V-drum pro set
Alesis Andromeda
Access Virus, Indigo
Korg Kaos pad
Alesis air fx
2 technics 1200s and high end vestax competition mixer (have that)
Audity 2000, Ultra proteus
A whole mess of other synths
akai s6000
waldorf stuff (xt, pulse)
Nord 3
SidStation
Korg (m1, triton)

mixing:
Mackie Digital 8bus
KRK monitors
lots of nice headphones
headphone dist amps

misc:

custom made mic pres

2 inch analog tape machine (hey why not?)

a vinyl cutter to use my own samples for cuts.

Tons of effects pedals.

eventides new flagship fx
tc units (fireworx, m1)
lexicon fx units

a closet with every mic ever made

A room full of the largest collection of old and new guitars and basses ever (warwick, fender, prs, les paul, some nice upright basses etc)

all instruments from the standard western orchestra (dbl bass, cello, violin, oboe etc)

A room full of old and half working gear, strange old toys/video games..anything that makes weird noises. (sampling broken/bizarre old gear rocks!)

A room full of vintage and new amps/speakers (roland jazz chorus, fender twin reverb, orange heads, mesa, marshall, line6, johnson, swt, gallion krueger etc)

A room full of percussion and other instruments from all over the world. (especially african, indian, chinese and japanese)

A drum room with 4 or 5 really nice kits all mic'd and ready to be recorded.

every sample cd ever made.

A beautiful 3 story building in a tropical environment on the ocean for all this stuff to exist in. Of course, i would have the ultimate pimp pad on the 3rd floor. The whole thing would be designed by some team i assembled of world renowned studio architects, interior desingers and ergonomic experts. lots of studio lighting, brushed steel, dark woods. everything in the building would be hooked into the board/patchbay system so that i could sample say, the tv, or the playstation easily.

a helicopter, decent jet (hey i'm not picky) and a yacht (with its own small studio) to get out and back

weekly visits from amon tobin, squarepusher, mouse on mars, the chick from strereo lab, the drummer from up bustle and out for some spirited collaboration, you get the idea.

lessons on sound design from top hollywood designers, piano lessons and a pool outside my studio window with lots of hot exotic naked chicks just mulling about.

i think that should do it.

May it never be said that TK421 had no vision!

Holy cow... :p

----for the fans---

GANTRY OFFICER: TK421 Why aren't you at your post? TK421, do you copy?

A stormtrooper comes down the ramp of the pirateship and waves to the gantry officer, pointing to his ear indicating his comlink is not working. The gantry officer shakes his head in disgust and heads for the door, giving his aide an annoyed look.

GANTRY OFFICER: Take over. We've got a bad transmitter. I'll see what I can do. Aargh!

one final thing

its not gear but i would also like to add nandaiyo to my list cause he is a badass. :)

In addion to tk421's list...

I want an additional floor in my building designated as the party level:)

I want some of the designers from the houses of Real World to help me decorate it.

Best sound system. Lights under the dance floor. Party never ends ;)

Full bar, guest dj's to play original stuff and current hot mixes.
