Mmm, gear...

I'm currently working with:

Roland JX-305
Roland Juno 6
BOSS SP-303 sampler
BOSS SYB-3 bass synth pedal
Peavey RQ2000 10 channel mixer
Alesis Nanocompressor
Yamaha 31-band eq
Fender Jazz Bass (swampash body, active pickups)
Solid oak African Djembe (hand drum)
Classical Guitar
Custom built PC (p3 533, 256megs, 30gigs, 19", ...)

I had a Roland MKS-20 digital piano rack, but I just sold it online so I can buy an Electribe. Other toys I need to get:

Behringer Composer (mastering tools galore)
Behringer Sub-bass Exciter
BOSS SE-50 studio FX
Roland TR-707 drum machine (mostly so I can run timing sequences into the arpeggiator sync on the juno)
Better sound card
Alesis Andromeda (drooooool)
That new Yamaha all-in-wonder kit you guys keep talking about-- it looks sweet!

hye u have a juno and a JX 305 tellme how do they sound and work, cox i'was trying to buy them but i didnt . tell me about them .

Well, the JX-305 is my main machine. You can layer 7 melodic parts with 1 drum part (which can actually be broken down into 8 sub parts and brought in and out individually). The sounds are pretty good, and surprisingly tweakable for a PCM synth. The major downfall of this machine is the lack of assignable outputs like the 505 has. However, the addition of a couple hundred more waveforms, better part mute chiclets (I find they respond faster and more accurately than the 505 blinking light things) and a nice solid keyboard with velocity and aftertouch makes it a fair trade.

The Juno has an unbelievably gorgeous sound. Only problem is, the one I have is pre-midi. I got it for $100 on ebay a while back, so I can't complain. I usually just make huge basslines on it, then sample them for live use rather than hauling her around with me. I want some sort of MIDI->CV bridge device so I can lock arpeggio sequences in with the rest of the sound, cause with the arpeggiator running with a nice envelope and plenty of resonance, you can melt the most wonderful bass into screaming acid madness, whip the highpass filter shut while killing your bassdrums, then open it up slowly while the snare builds, crank the res, drop the bassdrum back in and watch the room go right mad! Problem being that to get it synced with other gear on a 2 decade old slider (no bpm readout) is a bitch (to say the least).

Hehehe
I just thought of a really cool idea....

have a "midi controlled" real life orchestra. Your midi sequencer or keyboard sends the data to your orchestra via LCD "sheet music" ... the sheet music/screen "writes" the notes as they happen to the screens. The musicians then play the notes as they pop up on the screen.
and bingo... the most real sounding midi orchestra ever.
LOL
boy that would be some major latency though lol
:D
heh heh

Mj

MJ,

I would be careful about converting CV to Midi on your Juno. I have an SH-101that underwent "surgery" to interface w/ a kenton box, it sure nuff' was able to sync, and I can assign 7 seperate controllers to it, but something in the raw sound quality was lost. A very undefinable change, but it just wasn't as fat anymore. It was a sad day. Just letting you know, do some good research on mod'n synths and if you don't do the electronics yourself, find a reputable tech that has done some before. Good luck.
