Tascam us 122 + cubasis problem...

I just bought a US122 and tried to hook it up with the bundled version of cubasis. The problem is that audio input just sounds awful!! Slightly distorted without any high frequency at all. I have used the 16-bit driver in the setup. When I tried it on my ooold nTrack software it sounded ok ( but I´m not so fond of that anyway)
Does anyone have a clue what´s wrong?
I use a PC P4 2GHz and XP home
Or do you have any other software to recommend that is not so pricy...?

I have a few suggests for you.

1) disable anitivirus software and firewall
2) there should be only needed usb things plugged in to the computer. i only have the sound card plugged in
3) optimize your pc http://www.musicxp.net/
4) if all esle fails call tascam 323-726-0303 ext. 617

Also , and don't take this the wrong way, make sure you are using the right inputs on the Tascam. A lot of people accidently connect to the inserts which are right next to the xlrs, use the line ins.
