I am currently working on turning my home PC into a personal recording studio... I am just wondering what the best kind of soundcard to buy would be... i currently am running a normal soundblaster audigy... is a mono converter jack good enough to plug a good mic into my card or does it effect the quality at all?

also whats a good quality mic and what exacly does a mic filter do?

Are you sure you want the best kind of soundcard or do you have a budget?

And using a converter into phone with a mic will give you bad quality period.

I would recommend either an m audio audiophile or an Echo mia. Depends on what you can make a better use of.
