No sound proofing

Ok

If I'm using this set up

At4040
M Audio Fast Track USB Mkii
Grace Design 101

Can I still get the nice studio quality although I don't have my room sound proofed? I'd rather buy the at4040 than the Shure SM7B microphone.

I just ask because I was told getting an at4040 without having my room sound proofed wasn't a good idea.

Depends on your recording environment. How big is it? You may be able to just use a mic shield instead of sound proofing your whole room. I plan on getting one for my at2035, which sounds awesome. But I think the at4040 might pick up more sound than the 2035 which is why they recommended soundproofing your room first

While mic shields can help, acoustically treating the room works two fold for recording and monitoring, and will help much more than a mic shield. Mic shields can help with direct reflections, but any bass resonances or similarly destructive behaviors are not corrected with them.
