I'd rather go for edirol monitors rather than those behringer monitors. Looks are not necessarily indicative of sound but those look like standard $20 computer speakers. The Edirols are really not bad for their size. I tried their deigital model, MA-10d I think. I forget, but the lows were good for the size the highs were okay with mids a bit over-emphasized. Their cheaper model should have similar sound minus the built-in digital to analog converters.

I just want to say that, if you buy cheap gear, the best you can expect is a cheap sound.

That is the bottom line....With the majority of studio gear out there, you pay for what you get.

Not saying you cant make good music with cheap gear though, if you know your equipment well, you will be able to coax a reasonable sound from them, depending on your expectations.

Just dont expect miracles......The best thing you can have to record with is a brilliant musician. If you start with an awesome musician, it will be hard to mess things up, even using budget gear.

    Good luck mate!

Dont buy cheap Brand New equipment....Buy good, and more professional quality USED equipment.

With that said, I'd be careful about buying used monitors mostly...make extra sure they are in good condition and you hear them and thouroughly check them out. Thats the only thing I would personally be weary about buying used.

That is my advice from years of experience on the matter.
I like buying brand new stuff, but it cant always work that way when your budgeted.....Just make sure you are getting a good piece of used gear that is in good condition and maintained.

I know I take good care of my stuff, so when someone buy's something from me they are getting a good deal on a good piece of gear, and I figure there are lots of people like me who maintain their equipment well, just gotta find one.....Nothing wrong with buying used gear at all-
