Laptop Question

Hi there,

A laptop question for any of you guys out there with experience.

I shall be working with a band shortly and during rehearsals wish to try working with them with a master keyboard and a laptop loaded with virtual instruments. These shall be:

Native B4
Atmosphere
Edirol Orchestral
Absynth
Steinberg Hypersonic

These will be played live one at a time so nothing too intensive.

I would really like to know what kind of laptop (i.e. processor speed) I could get away with here. I wish to buy a laptop specifically for this but am not (and cannot) warrant getting some 2ghz machine. With your experience what should suffice? As I say it is just live use - no sequencing or recording whatsoever.

Also which soundcard would give me reasonable latency figures with a good midi connection?

Thanks for your help as ever.

best wishes

Paul

I think the soundcard is more imporatnt than the laptop specs - you could get away with a 1Ghz machine w/256 RAM as long as you had a solid sound card with good drivers and low latency

I would check out a USB card - Ausiophile USB or Novation SpeedIO looks great (speedIO uses power from USB instead of a wall wart - much better) check em out, eBay is your friend
