Are in-house studios a trend varying by genre?

I've been thinking about this lately a bit... this is highly subjective but it seems to me that some genres rely on in-house studios more than others.

(By in-house studio I mean a dedicated studio for the use of a label)

For example in EDM there are a lot of small labels and bedroom producers with small studio spaces which can't be really categorized as studios, in contrast to commercial studios.

Of course there's the underground/mainstream aspect but what are your thoughts?
