What is the correct way to set up a home studio (recordign directly into a computer harddrive?)

Is it possible to have a proffesional sounding recording (no air) plugging the mic directly into the sound card? Or must I plug the mic into a mixer and tehn the sound card, i'm trying to eliminaate the extra air in the background.

It may be the positioning of the mic, you may need a mic processor, or a better program to record too. It's too many factors in the scenario you gave to be more specific.

the airy sound may also be from the room itself, try setting the mic up in your closet, it can act as an iso booth eliminating extra noise, also a good pre amp will help.
