I am wanting to proof my room a little. I was wondering if there was an effective alternative to accoustifoam?

Foam - Even LOTS of foam, isn't going to soundproof your room. Not even a little tiny bit.

A semi-effective alternative would be to double or triple the thickness of the existing drywall. 1 or 1.5 inches thick per side does a fairly decent job of cutting down on transmission.

A more effective alternative would be rebuilding the wall...

I think he meant treat rather than sound proof.

There is a product called Tontine which is much better than any foam, fit these is a frame and stretch some cotton/lycra over it to make some attractive panels. Dont rest them against the walls though...
