Is there a way to sample vinyl without a preamp of some sort? What I've been doing is using a cord with separate L/R cables to a single jack that fits into the recording input on my mac. After that, in Maschine, I have just been putting a maximizer in front of the sample. I'd like to get away from that. Any suggestions?

Not that I know of, with audio. You are sampling, but the volume level must be miniscule, and the noise floor must be huge???
If your device has USB, and you had a USB turntable, you could go direct that way, I suppose. Some of those little USB's aren't too expensive.

i got a turntable going into this CITRONIC AC-1 USB AUDIO CAPTURE DEVICE which goes into laptop and i record through asio4all into maschine!! job done!!

You can also get a regular phono preamp for that price or even less if you look around..
