What are some professional recording microphones

^ LOL. ^

Also, the AKG C12, Sony C-800, and the Nuemann U-87 & 47.

Seriously though, the 414 is an amazing mike, but CorruptGeek, what budget are we talking about here? You mentioned home recording. Home studios vary, from the laptop and speakers variety in Dubuque, Iowa, to Walter Becker's famous "home studio" he used to have in Hawaii.

Can't make any kind of accurate recommendations without knowing your budget.

Obv depends entirely on your budget but an Se2200a is a fairly decent choice for vocals on a home studio budget. That is assuming your budget is not lottery win levels.

You could get the Manley Gold Reference Stereo mic or an MXL 990. Both get the job done, and both can sound good on certain things and also when mixed correctly.... without you giving a budget of some kind or even what it is you're going to be using it for no one can help you really
