Transparency Vs Warmth

Im curious when you guys are mixing what do you try to go for more in ur mixes. I try to go for warmth myself which is why I like to use lower end gear probabaly kuz its not as clear as some of the other stuff but whats your take on it.

I would like to get the Tampa mic pre for a really transparent signal for sample recording.

If you ever get a chance to use high end A/D/A conversion you will start to find that warmth and clarity go hand in hand.

And all other equipment can be the same way. An example would be my Behringer Ultragain Pro versus my Neve1072 clone (SCA N72). Very different price ranges. Both have a warm sound, but the SCA blows the Behringer away in the clarity department.

I mix to spec.

It all depends what the song calls for. Sometimes it's warmth, other times it's cutting dirt.....
