setup of mics for recording drums

aight i found a good 7 mic kit at ebay and , im wondering how to set them up for the best sound.

also what do i need an 8 track mixer that works with pro tools?

I would run the kick and the snare through a compressor too.

Basically a compressor is used to even out your levels. You use it to bring up the lower dynamics and keep down the higher ones.. all in all compress the sound. Check out these for more info. Lots of good stuff there.
