hey people!!

i have a question; what's the difference between
a multiband compressor (ie. Behringer Multicomp) and
a 1 band compressor. i mean, how those multibands works
compared with the single band ones...?

A single band compressor will compress over 1 frequency band (the whole file), where as a multiband will compress different frequency bands by different ratios. So you could heavily compress the bass, not touch the mid, and slightly compress the high.

A good multiband compressor that I use is the Drawmer DC2476

Try tc-works homepage and look for a plugin called master-x. That is a good multiband compressor.

I don't know the exact / only uses for these, cause you can use things however you want but -

When mastering, for example, you would use a multiband compressor, because you're compressing a whole mix with numerous sounds, and not all the frequencies should be compressed the same. A single compressor would flatten everything out the same and it won't sound good on a whole mix.
If you were just working on one channel, a single band comp. would be fine. But I'm sure you can use them other ways...
