mixing tracks with vocals ?

hey guys is it a good idea to group the music (eg drums synths ) and keep the vocals seperatley when mixing the vocals ? what is your procedure

It's usually best to keep vocals seperate, since they can take a crapload of compression and still sound great.

I usually have my vocals in a separate bus for flexibility. I would definitely have a drum bus then group instruments that sound good together in separate buses. There are no rules, sometimes I route vocals or basslines through the drum bus and they sound awesome.
