Hum/buzz problem when using a DI box to record guitar

Hi,

I'm getting a lot of hum/buzz despite using a DI box. Setup as follows:
  • DI box is using phantom power
  • Guitar into DI 1/4 inch input using stereo cable
  • DI output into interface using XLR cable

Equipment used:
  • DI box is a Behringer Ultra DI 100
  • Interface is an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra
  • Software is Cubase

Using the ground lift function on the DI box doesn't seem to make any difference. The only other thing I can think of is to try using a 9V battery to power the DI box rather than phantom power. I will test that too and update the thread.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, do that ^^^^, or try a passive box. Also, try to make sure that you don't have audio and electrical cables too close to each other.

And, did you really mean "stereo cable?" You should use a simple, mono, shielded guitar cable. If you're trying something else that happens to fit, you could be introducing all kinds of problems and cross-talk.

Why a stereo cable into the DI? Why the DI in the first place when you have instrument inputs on the FTU?
