how were the vocals done back when louis armstrong and frank sinatra were doing it, and how did they record jazz orchastras around that time?

Same way they do now. Mics, mixers, tape back then as digital recording wasn't available. At least not as we know it now.

in the 50's most music was mixed live on the spot to 2track, some had more, but i don't know if sinatra did that in that time.
