Yeah it's all in the mix & master, careful limiting, saturation, eq, panning, etc. will be the ticket.

Whats helped me was bussing all of the intruments to one bus, the kick straight to the master chain and the bass to its own buss. Process each buss differently using compression, saturation, etc. on the master chain add a limiter and a EQ that can cut the lows out of the mid and side.

Keep your mixes low, so when you master, you have plenty of headroom, and any bad frequencies that you didnt catch wont be pumped up.

good EQ, compression, and then hit it with a good limiter, no much more than 6dB gain

You use a loudness maximizer on the stereo/main out.

Try using a clipping plugin before the limiter like standard clip or kclip. This will cut down some of the transients but still maintain the punch. You can then try a limiter after to get even louder.

Panning to make things wider, limiters, compression, EQ'n the master (be careful with all of these). There's plug ins like Izotope out there. There's a plug in called OTT that I've seen a few homies use on their master buses as well.
