what is the first thing youdo before you start a beat.Do you have to set up effecxts and stuff.what are the stepz.

I think you might get a better response in the "Getting Started" forum. The answers here might be a step above what you're looking for.

But:
FX are usually best left alone until as late as possible in the production chain. Add FX to the individual tracks just before you mixdown.

all i start with is a reverb in a send channel, just cuz i know i will need it at SOME point, an eq in my master channel, at first just to cut bottom end. and sometimes i will toss a delay in a send channel, just cuz... and i generally have one synth to start off with, mostly just for inspiration..

and in the beginnin im generally pretty liberal with throwin eqs on a lot of stuff....

although, i do have a 'blank' track with some favorite vstis pre-loaded... but i dont always start that way...
