Recording Device they used in the movie DrumLine

I was watching DrumLine today on HBO and there was a part near the end where they clipped what looked like a small microphone or some type of transducer device to the side of the drum. The microphone was connected to a computer that was running some kind of software that looked like Sibelius or Finale. They started to play their rhythm patterns and the computer software recorded it and printed it out.

I was wondering is this actual software or just movie stuff, Ive used Sibelius and Finale before but just for basic stuff. Im thinking this would be a cool feature if you could connect a whole drum set with these microphones and record yourself improvising a drum loop/beat using this notation software so you could go back later and reproduce that beat reading it from the score.
