WASHINGTON - Radio listeners weary of hearing the same songs over and over may have something to cheer about: Broadcasters have tentatively agreed to anti-payola settlements that could shake up music playlists at some of the nation's largest radio chains.

Four major broadcast companies would pay the government $12.5 million and provide 8,400 half-hour segments of free airtime for independent record labels and local artists, The Associated Press has learned.

Could be good news for people with good music that want to get some radio play.

Even now there are many local radio personalities that will play your music if your music is good. If it is good, people will ask and request. Can't expect to give someone a mediocre-sounding product and expect them to play it either but if you're good, if the door isn't open climb through the window.

True...i just hope the program directors/music directors don't start pickin up the payola slack..(to get that new suv)! I find it hard to believe that these folk have been purged of those tendencies...
