Music biz - fee question - strange scenario

Lets say you're a up and coming musician/producer that works with a famous artist. Regularly.

Said artist films a big movie (lead roll). A big producer is recruited for end title credit song. Director then needs same song revamped to fit a 1970s vibe for a key scene in the movie. Big producer isn't interested and gives it to you - signs off on having you do a 'sound alike'. No paperwork signed or even discussed.

You take the basic chord structure, make it your own - play every instrument - record it - track and produce vocalist (famous artist) - not changing lyrics but re-arranging them and song form - mix it - LONG weeks of work but its looking like its going to make the movie.

In this situation there's no discussion of $ prior/during production because you're being given a chance on a big film, semi-nepotism situation. The opportunity 100% would have been taken away had you brought up $.

Said artists manager, who is one step up from pond scum, wanting to talk $ and most certainly working devious schemes to pocket more for himself. You have a lawyer but is it even worth the fees on a situation like this?

I know this is a strange situtation but looking for any real advice on this. Music budget is considerable btw.
