Indie Label Situation

Hi All,
To the vast knowledge residing in all of the FP'rs here I appeal. A friend of mine (producer) has been approached by a small independant label thru someone who is helping them ( a mutual friend). The label in NYC has been paying from $1500 to $5000 per track for their MC ( the first release). The label may not be %100 all on point with their business(very new ).

What advice on how he should approach this :
1.) just get paid and "sell the track(s)) "or

2.) negotiate publishing, points.
(He has no Pub Co. of his own nor is signed to one, only ASCAP affiliated). or
3.)Whatever I'm missing...

This meeting will take place next few weeks and I may go with him to find out more.
Any words of wisdom?

if this is his first project, ill go with the bread. if a label is paying out 1500 to 5000 a track it's a win for him (work for hire). but i'll ask for production credit and contact number on all tracks that i produced. so you will have something to use as a sample of your work with a label. take that bread and big you a better studio. and charge the next cat that comes your way. cause if the album sells then your business just picked up.
