So I wanna realy work daily on my mixtape and I have songs writen but how do I find the right beat ? I got a friend who makes beats, he seems pretty genious but hella lazy as in he makes some awesome sounding stuff but seems to not learn all the basics you need. But well since it's only a mixtape it doesn't have to be perfect.

SO do I search the web for beats that might fit, I don't know musical theory and doubt a beat just happens ot fit your composion. I guess I need to work with someone to make fitting beats. Is it possible you have a song writen and find a beat that matches ?

A mixtape is like an unofficial album with often b-class material as you leave your best songs for a real LP, it's very popular to do mixtapes in the urban comunity.

I do this for developing my skills because it motivates me when I work on something concrete that I willl make public instead of just practicing in my room for just myself.

I'm very good at lyricism, got some good melodies (mostly for songs that I'll keep for later, mixtape songs often lack melody) and know a lot about charts and hit songs. However my vocals are rather bad and the parts where I'll sing I'll process heavily with autotune or whatever will be needed, my rapping is ok now but I'll really work on it.

So how do I go about this ? I also realise I am almost old at 24 and really have to catch up, I think the best is to specialise on improving vocals, I'm good at songwriting and that is the olny reason my music can be good cause vocaly I'm lacking. Well I am gonna practice my vocals for the next years to come but tohers are already really far ahead, they only need to be good enough to pull of the melodies, rappers aren't expected to sing that well, for example Eminem sings sometimes and it's not great but does work especialy with his production team as superstar.

CLIFF NOTES / SHORTCUT / THE QUESTION

I HAVE THE SONGS FOR MY MIXTAPE WRITEN MOSTLY AND HOW DO I FIND FITTING BEATS NOW ? DO I NEED A PRODUCER TO MAKE CUSTOM BEATS FOR IT OR CAN I FIND FITTING ONES ON THE INTERNET ?

Note - I posted this same question on another forum like 15 minutes ago, to make sure I get answers

its pretty innate, the ability to know what you want the song to sound like and find the beat that fits. Its alot harder doing it this way than it is finding a beat and writing to it in my opinion. Sounds like you have alot of work to do to get your skills up, so I would focus on finding any beat on getting something down first. unless you are paying your producer tons of money don't expect everything to sound good in post production, it doesn't work like that. you gotta get it sounding the best you can before you record which means practicing on cheap beats for a mixtape

I know about getting the right producers ; it's pay them good $ or have hype which means they get exposure (or just have luck to get a banger beat like from someone who doesn't know what they have there or are just upcoming producers) and give you beats to get their name out BUT what I'm asking is how to find FITTING beats to the songs I wrote. I'm starting to think I'll have to make custom ones with my friends, cause the mood of a beat has to fit the mood of a writen song and that is hard to fit I would say. If you write to a beat then you can adjust the mood or if you write a universal song like a Gangster or party song that is not too specific can work with most gangst / party beats.

Right beat?

its probably easier to write to a beat than to build a beat around lyrics; especially if you're not educated when it comes to music theory. try to build a team with someone who makes beats and just vibe. be there when he/she is making a beat and see if you can vibe out some lyrics while the beatmaker is vibing out the beat.

^ I agree..you should never write with out having the beat..99% of the time it won't work right..the beat is what makes me write, so why would I put what I wrote for that specific beat on a different beat? And definitely don't write acappella

if u learn music theory you can build a beat around a writen song, it works both way. It's your issue if you don't know how to do it ;)

Hi, I am a new producer and songwriter. I have 2 mixtapes that i produced and wrote 100%. I also made few collabs with some amateur rappers. I can do feats, too. If you need a beat to suit your song look at youtube search Aroma Mob
and for the song and quality of the lyrics: go to datpiff search WRONG CHAPTER

I can sure help you finish your mixtape, as I did this before. I received vocals over e mail and built a beat for it, and sent the full song back to the vocal owner to check if they like it.
