A Computer Recording Question

do i need to know anything special about hooking a Tube Preamp to my computer?

Is it just a wire that i plug into the in slot on my soundcard?

and if i still have the basic soundcard in the computer... what kind of difference is the preamp gonna make (if any) in the recording quality vs just pluggin a mic into the soundcard?

I can't really answer your question but it seems like you're moving backwards. You should probably get a better soundcard first. If you get something with nice converters and pre-amps your sound should improve a lot. You can get the tube gear if you're still not satisfied after that.

Yeah thats what i was thinkin but im not completely completely committed to this music ****... its basically just my hobby... and im not sure i wanna spend money right now on a good sound card

but someone offered me a good deal on a pretty nice preamp for cheap

your preamp will give you the ability to adjust your line level diferently from your software and it'll warm up your sound a bit. welcome to Fp.com man.....um btw
