Anyone know what this sound effect is?

Its from the James Bond film Golden eye.

It was then also used in the nintendo 64 game that game after it in 1997


You hear that sort of deep ping happening on the 3rd beat of the bar? Thats what I mean.

To me, it sounds similar to a submarine sonar sound, do you think thats what it is?

Sounds like a filtered gong to me.
I might be wrong though.

yep - gong or even a water gong (being pulled up slightly) with a filter on it

BC, when you say its being pulled up slightly, what do you mean?

a water gong is a gong suspended in a tub of water - you can lower or raise the height of the gong after it is struck to change the pitch of the gong, in this case there is a very slight pitch bend up, so the gong is pulled up out of the water
