Are you more HipHop / Rap / RnB or more Techno / Trance / Jungle / Drum n Bass ..etc..?

Or maybe others, or even all of them?

List the genres you are mixing!

I mix mostly tracky Techno stuff... Not quite intelligent Techno... but not quite House...

But I mostly listen to Hip-Hop in the car... 8o)

I mix trance, prefer the more mellow stuff. I know trance has loads of genres but I don't go into that much detail since I never play only one genre of trance.
I mix the occasional drum N bass when I get tired of trance (like when I get Dum-Tiss-Dum-Tiss... goin through my head constantly).
And a VERY small bit of house when I have friends over since everyone can relate to that and you can just mess about with it all you like without concentrating too much:)

I can't get enuff "Dum-Tiss-Dum-Tiss" HeHe. I just can't.

Sometimes I mix a little fast house into my trance-stuff.
I like artists who can make a good mix of HardCore Dance / House / Trance, and keep the general feel : TRANCE!
This is what I strive to play, but many people will want some other stuff and I succumb to playing some Strictly-House / Strictly-Dance.
I refuse to play D&B. I like to dance to it with a lovely lady, but I hate mixing it, wich requires that you actually listen to the tune.

My own music is slowly getting more "Cheasy" because I want to be different.
I my next track (coming soon to a mp3.com near you) I have created some cheasy "HouseHats" to add to the repetitious step of the basedrum.
I don't know what I'll call the track yet.

Ok here I go : I mainly mix trance and hardtrance, but I try to incorporate techno, retro, groove, club, breakbeat into it whenever I can.

I start with very "gentle" trance (like Dutch trance) and slowly build up. At the end of the evening I probably spin the hardest trance you've ever heard :D (ever got a hold on DJ Vortex and Rapa's Dream's record called The church EP, well that's about halfway :D)

I spin downtempo grooves including all the Earth and Cookin vinyl. Deep/Vocal/Disco-House. And I also spin Intelligent d&b.

It depends on the gig as to what I decide to spin. At my club I start out with downtempo and then move to house. I do the intelligent d&b at some guest spots to bring some new sounds. Usually I'm in the mix 2-4 min. with the d&b so its nice to do those long mixes.

It only starts to get good when you mix some complete odd styles (for dj's I mean) : trance with classical, techno with pop music :D

True. Makes it alot of fun and sometimes it really works.

Changing subject:
I actually think (don't kill me) that many progressive Dj's are ruining a little for the dancers with sudden jumps and too agressive twists.
I think you should consider when you mix that the dancers have no idea when you suddently do something crazy.
Am I the only one here who feels this way?

Nope, you're completely right. I myself try to mix in that way that people won't notice the transitions between songs, so that the people still think that it's the same tune as a minute before.

The only time I really do "steep" mixes is when the next tune is a big floorfiller, you know : the tune half of the crowd has been waiting for since the beginning of the party".
It sure gives a good feeling when the crowd shouts out cuz their song is finally there.

Well,

I started Dj'n house parties and college parties. My focus 5 years ago was Euro/Italio Dance and Freestlye.

Currently getting back into DJ'n and Music and hoping to start practicing everyday after 3 years of never touching my stuff, I am going to start mixing all genre's of Electronica (Trance, Ambient, etc.) cause I am hooked on it now!!!

Anyone have any suggestions where I can start a nice MP3 collection of the phattest Electronica Tunes???

I listen everything from Hip-Hop to Electronic, so I mix everything from that large area. I hate the idea, that I have to stuck in one genre. :D
