hehe you are right. Will Smith is making people think hiphop is crap. i say its simply not hiphop.
 
I don't know much about hiphop or rap, but since a long time now, I respect the Beastie Boys for their use of DJs in their music. I don't know about EMINEM

My favourite french hiphop / rap bands are: I AM, 3eme Oeil, Fonky Family. Good bbox style hiphop (french again) would be "Sayan Supa Crew". I thought it'd be cool to post those, a little french touch to this world :)

As for the US, I like the beastie boys since quite some years (I know they have their style... :) ) and the Wu-tang clan.

Ever since the "N O, T O, R I O, U S, You just lay down slow" left us (B.I.G.RIP) the east coast has been searching for his replacement. I would have to say that (IMO) the following are the top hip hop acts out right now. (In no particular order)
