Forget the old school hip hop. Toronto-based beats like stuff that Drake, The Weeknd, Partynextdoor perform over are the new hip-hop. The sub bass and 808-based drum sounds are the new MPC drum sounds. The style is here and has evolved over all of the older "trap" style music to create something unique but familiar, raw but smooth, new but the same, and niche but mainstream.

**Who knows what other famous rap song uses the same sample?

The 808 has been out since '80 - that's 36 years...not sure how it's the new MPC when cats were going crazy over it back on Planet Rock. That's like saying Ford is the new Audi. the 808 hasn't gone anywhere...it's just that these bedroom producers who can't play an instrument other than a MIDI keyboard think they're Timbalands because they rely solely on 808 sounds.

Beat is def smooth af tho.

They say Shawty Redd invented trap music. So he is the one who came up with the beginning of this sound movement. And people don't even use 808s like that. They use sub bass.
